How to tie your blog or web publication to a twitter account

In this tutorial I’m going to go over how to set your blog/cms/web publication to automatically send out updates via twitter. The first question you’ll probably ask is “Why would I want to do that?” Well the biggest reason is just to give your readers another way of finding out about new content being posted to your site another reason would be to attract new readers.

Here is a possible scenario…

You post an article to your site about a recent arsonist that was arrested in say Faribault, MN. If that post also appeared as a ‘tweet’ on a twitter account someone searching twitter to see if anyone is talking about that arsonist that was arrested in Faribault would arrive on your ‘tweet’ and be referred to your full article on your site via a link thus driving more page views to your publication and possibly acquiring  new frequent visitors.

It’s just one more way for you to get your content in front of more eyes and ears. So with that being said your physical resources may already be stretched, you might not have any room on any of your staff’s plates to add in maintaining a twitter account to their list of tasks. The Google vs Apple Plot Thickens

It looks like Google CEO Eric Schmidt just resigned from the Apple Board of Directors citing conflict of interest. It looks like Apple denying the Google Voice app for no apparent reason other then they feel threatened by it.

The truth is, it’s been a tangled web for some time as far as the relationship between Apple and Google goes. Sure, Schmidt sat on the board, the companies claim to be working on new projects, and Google Maps comes preloaded onto the iPhone, but over the past year, Google’s increasing move into Apple’s space, and Apple’s increasing desire to control every inch of that space have not been good bedfellows. It’s hard to imagine that Apple could maintain a completely healthy relationship with a direct competitor in both the phone and OS space for very long, and that’s to say nothing of Cupertino’s latest push into online document editing and management, which couldn’t have seemed very awesome to Schmidt and company. Oh, and there’s that matter of the antitrust case which is currently ongoing. Still, it’s a bit sad to see this power couple going their separate ways, though it does give us some hope that Google will begin a full assault with Android in earnest, because only sweet stuff could come from those efforts. If you’re interested, the full PR is after the break.
